There’s no point calling him a Fairy Godmother ‘cos he’s a him and a very nice him indeed. Stumbling about on Twitter I noticed I’d got a tweet from a chap I did not know who said he wanted to give me a gift – which is lovely.
However, being a newbie to tweeting and very cautious of the whole thing I was a tad surprised and then wondered if I was being wound up, then panicked that I was being stalked then stooped to googling the chap’s name to allay my fears.
Found out that the chap works at Appliances Online. And he’s not a stalker just a very clever marketing man who also is very good at Twitter and other social media ( I had a tech query and he explained it all very simply and quickly for me).
Anyway, back to the story, I being very curious now tweeted that that was fine I am happy taking gifts from strangers – just as long as my husband doesn’t find out!
The Fairy Godfather quickly noted that I have a penchant for chocolates and thoroughly enjoy wine (please I am a mother of boys! I am sure that explains everything for those of us who need an excuse) so he kindly sent me some beautiful Belgian Truffles and a sumptuous bottle of wine.
In thanking him all I was asked to do was to put a link to Appliances Online on my post and then tell everyone all about the Fairy Godfather visitation and suggest that if you too would like a visit leave a comment on my blog and you might be contacted by someone from Appliances Online and get a special something to lift your day.
I have of course left the box of chocs and bottle of wine in their beautiful gift box lying about on the kitchen table to see if my husband noticed and got curious as to who is sending gifts to his wife... it’s been there two days with no comment and I don’t have the will power to leave it much longer!!!!.
I leave you with how the campaign works in the Fairy Godfather’s own words as I go downstairs to relish a Belgian ruffle before picking the boys up from school….
“We’ve be doing blogger outreach lately. Basically, if you can mention us in your blog (with a link) then anyone who comments also has a chance of getting their hands on a thoughtful (hopefully) gift. This post explains what we’ve been doing really well. Unfortunately I’m not allowed to give away any more washing machines or buy people widescreen tellies but I read in your bio you love wine and chocolate so I thought that you’d not mind both.”
PS: From a marketing point of view I think this is a brilliant campaign because it brings such joy and when I next look for a kitchen appliance I know exactly where I will be going first!
PPS: DON’T FORGET TO LEAVE A COMMENT!!!!!

Ah the man in drag himself strikes again ;)
Well Done on getting a lovely free gift! x
Hmmmm I so like pressies! lol! Well done you! Now - can you explain Twitter to me - I have an account and I twitter from time to time - but what is it all about?
I've finally got a mobile phone .... the last person in Europe to get round to being able to announce to everyone "I'm on the train" .... and was feeling daringly modern .
Twitter ?
I read about this site the other day. Didn't know they'd hand out wine and choccies though! Oh the thought of getting such a great gift you lucky girl!
Enjoy!
chocolate and wine! yummy - lucky ladythat tops my valentines present
He's been to visit me too - I was delighted with a DVD of Les Miserables as he had realised I was a fan. It's a very clever marketing technique with a lovely personal touch.
My post is still taking comments if any of your readers want another chance to be chosen.
Wow, that is a pretty clever marketing ploy. He must know that us mummies are suckers for chocolates or, um.... um....spa resort weekends! ;)
Intelligent marketing. Others should take note!
It's a great idea for a personal touch as others have said. I was emailed before Christmas by someone called Ben at Appliances Online doing the same thing and was offered a gift but after sending my address as requested it never arrived! Never mind. Perhaps its in the lost letters office...!
I think its quite funny that you left the wine and chocolates out to see if you could get a reaction from your husband! No, I wouldn't have the willpower to last too long either. :)
He is a lovely fairy godfather isn't he. Lucky you - enjoy the wine and the choccies.
He visited me after I left a comment on a blog (she got a new cooker lucky thing!) I got Nigella's new book which was fab, and Chris commented on my blog post about that and got chocs too.
I wonder whose turn it is next?!
Oooooh. Chocolate... (goes into daze....) what a brilliant marketing ploy. Because we all LOVE pressies!! Enjoy those choccies. Lucky you. Hmphh. xx
