Fat is a post-holiday issue....

Weighing in!!!

That’s it! I need to pull out the big guns. I have just, and I mean only just, recovered from the shock that is my post-Christmas weight.
I casually popped myself on the scales two nights ago, as you do when you get out the bath. The scales were a bit dusty but I didn’t get the significance.
OMG!!!!
I had put on 3kg!
Nearly half a stone!
In three weeks!
Clearly my monitoring systems had failed in the excitement and, dare I say it, chaos that surrounds the holiday period and I had not been weighing myself as regularly as I thought. Looking back at my diary I realised I hadn’t weight myself since 7th December! No wonder the scales were dusty!
There is one thing I have learnt when losing weight, once you have done it or take a break from losing it, you need to keep monitoring it or before you know it you’re back up to where you were - and some!
I am not as heavy as I was this time last year, which is some consolation, but I am still nowhere near my target weight of 58kg about 9 stone.
BUT
I just can’t believe I put on SO much in such a short time…I didn’t eat that much did I??? The occasional choccie four or five times a day, the occasional glass, sorry bottle of bubbly, just a handful of crisps in between sips….
Errmmmmmmm well to be truthful I didn’t exactly write down what I ate and in so doing I can’t really remember.
It doesn’t look good.
ACTION has to be taken.
However there’s no point in starving as that will only slow the old metabolism down and I won’t be able to keep it up and land up piling the pounds back on as soon as I stop and start to eat normally again and everyone knows that that is just too depressing for words. So off to www.myfitnesspal.com  to work out my minimum calorie intake level and to write down everylittle nibble so that I still lose weight reasonably fast and to help bolster my will–power the dulcet tones of Trevor Silvester of Thinking Slimmer Slimpod fame…
I’ll let you know how I get on!

And the Award goes to....

I feel just like Colin Firth. Slightly bashful and really jolly pleased. Getting through the mid stage of your diet with your dignity and judgment intact can be somewhat precarious, and sometimes all you need is a bit of gentle reassurance. The Stylish Blogger Award might be the only thing that stands between me and a rather large bar of Green & Blacks's Almond chocolate.
So I'd like to thank Mother Hen for that assurance and boosting my morale so that I don't reach for that bar of temptation....Mother Hen you are a star!

The rules are:
a) Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.
b) Share 7 things about yourself.
c) Award 15 recently discovered (I'm also adding favourite) bloggers.
d) Contact those bloggers and tell them about the award.

Seven things:
1: I can hum and whistle at the same time. Try it it's difficult...
2: I keep piles and piles of sea glass secreted all over my house for no particular reason that I can fathom...
3: I think I am odd which must of course mean that I am possibly the most NORMAL person on the planet because that is the way life works.
4: If I am overly nice to you it means one of two things. Either I really am being nice or I don't trust you once tiny little bit...
5: I swear way too much in real life....
6: I frequently forget things even when I am trying not to...
7: I am ever so slightly addicted to Glee!

I've eaten half a pizza and I think I'm going to be sick...

I've eaten half a pizza and I think I'm going to be sick. It's not that I've eaten too much, it's just the enormity of how I did it. I was  like a ravenous dog whose master is just about to come in through the door and catch me at it. I am sure it's not a good thing to bolt food like that.
Now I am trying to work out WHY?
Of late I have been so well controlled about food but today has been one of those days. I had to eat. It started off so well with bacon and eggs but by the time I got back off the school run I had to have 2 stale ginger biscuits (they should be called snaps but  they hardly do that after two weeks in the cookie jar). I love stale ginger biscuits, so much nicer than the fresh crunchy ones, they remind me of cake mixture. I should have restricted myself to 'just the one' but the temptation was just way too strong. I lumbered on until lunchtime when I bolted a small bowl of pasta and pesto left over from the boys' supper the night before with a hunk of bread and again fell into temptation with the last two ginger biscuits
Everything OK until the boys' supper tonight when I was revoltingly like the Wickedest Whippet. I mean I positively growled at the children as we fought over the last peices and I wolfed down all their crusts. The dogs were MOST put out.
To assuage my guilt I ate three clementines.
Now looking back at the amount of food I ate today I see it's really rather lacking in the old green stuff stakes and a tad high on the old carbs but in my defence I needed it, I was hungry and tired, oh and stressed. I gather not a good combo when you are trying to lose weight.
I think I had better start again right now with a relaxing bath and a good book, perhaps I will be calm enough not to eat again when my husband gets in from work. I know he likes me to have supper with him but today he'll have to lump it. I will not sympathy eat just to keep him company.
The piazza keeps repeating itself and I feel kinda bloated...eeew, pardon me, I won't say what happened just then but I feel an awful lot better now.
Off to soak in my bath and dream of celery sticks....

Review: Thinking Slimmer - All I have to do is believe....

All I have to do is believe, believe that this time I will stick to my guns and that I will be able to lose weight...hmmmmm been here before and tried and failed and then made myself sick...
But this time all I am being exhorted to do is listen to a CD/podcast before I go to sleep. I am not being asked to give up anything as such nor am I being asked to eat only meat/veggies/tofu, just listen. It's got to be the oddest way to start changing my eating habits but the one thing that made me want to try this was because on the Thinking Slimmer website it said in big bold letters that dieting doesn't work.
Well actually it said that: Research has proven that diets don't achieve lasting weight loss. Now isn't that refreshing to have from a company helping you to lose weight. There seems to be an honesty about it. I am not saying that the marketeers for other weight loss programmes /foods/drinks or shakes are wrong or bad by saying their product does help you  to you lose weight just that I like the way the guys at Thinking Slimmer think. It proves what I have always thought that there is no easy way to do these things you have really got to want to do them not rely on a magic panacea.
So I have my handbook.  I have written my contract to myself and it's pinned up for me and everyone else to see in the kitchen. And I have my CD. Now let’s hope that it works...

Contract to self reads:

I will achieve my goals of:
1 Weighing 9st 8lbs
2 Running for fun
3 Writing THAT book

And I will achieve them by this date:
Easter 2011

Review: Thinking Slimmer – yeh right!

Diets don’t work and they certainly don’t work on me I just land up eating all the things I should not be eating then feel awful and make myself sick. Yup you guessed it I was a Bulimic in a past life. Yum!
Knowing that it is no good for me to contemplate dieting because I just get to stressed and do all the things you shouldn’t, when I read about the opportunity to try out Thinking Slimmer it seemed the answer to my prayers. Over the past nine years I have successfully watched myself get larger and larger, not massively large but enough to upset me and to make me feel a total failure in these vacuous times. I know I shouldn’t think like that but I do because it is extremely difficult not to when wherever you look you are bombarded with pictures, programmes, magazine articles, fashion shows, adverts and the like which basically equate slightly chunkier more curvaceous people as being lazy good for nothings who are clearly substandard.
Why should I have got bigger, well having children as we all know doesn’t help and getting pregnant six times ain’t helpful either. I hasten to add I don’t have six children though I promise I would have loved it if I did have that many. I was blessed with two beautiful boys and I am not complaining. However, as I always say if I knew how hard it was going to be to get them, I would have enjoyed my twenties in London much more!
Anyway at a cheerful 5ft 2 inches, I now weigh in at a handsome 11st 2lbs or roughly 156lbs and I would like to be 9st 8lbs or 134lbs, or as near as dammit. I’m not asking miracles just a bit of help with the will power so that I don’t have to diet, so that I stop eating when I am sad or stressed that I go for a walk instead which is what I know will do me far more good as well as exercise boosts those serotonin levels that make you feel good.
So not asking much am I??? Well here goes…

Go on you know you want to...
