Salutatory lessons in blogging #3 - why saving your blog posts is so important

There you are slaving your guts out on a post; it may not be your finest but as far as the gurus at Blogcamp are concerned, it fits the bill. All I have to do is save the post and all will be well. In fact it could not have gone m94more smoothly. The headline has all the right words and phrases for a good search; it's been checked so that it is topical and will crawled over by spiders.
No it's not some sort of occult thing, you have to make sure that you get these things right so that the bods at Google notice it and they do this by sending out spiders to do their searching or so I am led to believe...
The first paragraph has all the right phrases in to make searching easier as does the last paragraph and I try not to think how cringe worthy it sounds to me, a writer who has been trained by the best NOT to repeat herself and to use the myriad of words and phrases the English language is blessed with so that I do not bore my readers by endless repetition - would that they have taught Google.
I have tweeted using all the new tricks taught, capitalised, dotted and everything is go...and then blogger fails.
One of the best posts I have done in ages with everything just right and the tech bods at Google bugger it up by crashing Blogger who then stop all blogs and remove recent posts in an attempt to get things back to normal. My moment of triumph ruined and guess why? Because I forget to copy it. Having thought about it earlier I still forget. The post goes up and it takes well in fact better than I ever expected I get 17 hits in an hour! I am ecstatic. Obviously the Blogcamp guys know their stuff. Yet I forget the most basic tenet always back up your blog in case you lose it.
Well Blogger, thanks to you, it looks like I did. I'd love to blame it on you and Google but let's face it this is salutatory lesson in blogging number 3 for me: always save your posts...

Total sympathy, Tattie. I still hardly dare believe Blogger is working again this evening.

I lost all the comments to my most recent post. Although I've just seen there are 8 comments now (instead of what might be 28)
but that's better than earlier, so maybe they are making progress and you might see that blog post yet ;)

Tell me about it. Blogger posted my draft, full of spelling mistakes, as it crashed so I was actually quite pleased they deleted it in the end but a very frustrating night and all day yesterday was had by all of us I think! Grrrrrrr

Bluestocking mum - it is hard to believe and very frustrating! However it does show me that perhaps blogging is more important in my life than I thought.
Von- so glad it is back. Now to go a visiting!
Random woman - just seen I have got my post back, minus comments :( hope yours came back and you've tackled those errors!

Well this has me glad I moved to Wordpress (sorry Blogger fans...but I had trouble back when my blog started too)

How frustrating!!! My other half keeps telling me I should write my posts in Word and then put them up on the blog finished. He's right, but please don't tell him that ;)

I know Tattie it was complete pants to have everything crash....and to see my comments deleted. Hope you have a lightbulb moment and manage to reclaim some of those words.

Hmmm, same here. I've learned the lesson the hard way, too, and backed up my blog over the weekend. I was fuming to see that one of the most important posts I'd one for ages was deleted along with the 19 extremely supportive comments. Today I've written about my feelings because I was more or less told to "get a life" after complaining about it over the weekend on Twitter.

Mesina- I usually do do that but just sometimes....
Posie- words failed to reemerge so I wrote a different one!
CJ - I can' t believe anyone could be so crass! What ass that person was! No one has the right to judge on something like this ESP if they are not armed with all the facts. I am sure you've had lots of supportive comments because if a stranger told me to get a life I'd be devastated. Totally uncalled for! (hugs

Go on you know you want to...
