Shall I compare thee?

For The Littlest…

Shall I compare thee to a full time Mum?
Thou art more grumpy and intemperate
Thy work does use up all thy spark and fun
And my childhood is all too short a date:
Sometime too late thou may remember this,
That while thou workest I play alone
Some stranger holdest me and wins a kiss
That by rights is only for thee to own
But no it is not yet too late for thee
Shake off the clouds of deepest despondancy
Shut up thy work and come now and follow me
For the sun does shine on us right joyously
So long as we can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

I promise we will play together….

This I do like, nay I do love.

O, more than a little wistful!
I know how that feels. x
And the rub is - when you DO have time to play outside in the the joyous sunshine, he will have discovered the joy of the Nintendo and won't want to join you. Hey-ho.

more lovely indeed....and oh so true. And yup, Kitty IS right, sadly so. I can't seem to write reasonable sentences this morning. Ah, take the day off, Tattie....go frolic. The sheds can wait....the weekend is going to be foul apparently. jxxxxx

Reminded me of the rhyme that goes something like 'cobwebs quiet down, dust go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep'.

I am nearly 51 but remember seeing the back of my mother's head constantly as she worked on the sewing machine - making clothes for us and herself. I don't think she EVER played with us. Enjoy your little ones Tattie and everyone. The time flies by. My baby is 20 this summer!

Not sure this just applies to working mums Tattie. I'm at home blogging now whilst Boy #1 listens to a cd alone.

The guilt never stops with this mother job, does it?

Gawd . . .yes remember all this . . . and it does all fly by so quickly and you are left wondering did I give them enough time, or am I going to have to stump up for their therapy.

Time like an ever rolling stream...etc etc.....but my kids remember me playing with them and paddling in the river at Clun in the summer ...have just set the two youngest off on a memory trail to see what they say ..so far so good...

Steal those moments Tattie - but don't beat yourself up over your work. Sometimes it's hard to see that you do have a balance in your life - especially when what you are doing at this moment is really not what you want to be doing.

That was good! very good!

Beautifully put, Tattie. Whether a working mum or no, I think there's always going to be that undercurrent of guilt whatever you do. I'm sure your little ones think you're a great mum anyhow. And I'm sure you are.

Just brilliant Tattie - and if it isn't freezing snow where you are then you should indeed go play xx

Brilliant. so hard to get it right. I remember my son at about eight bemoaning the fact that went to work and didnt meet him at the school gate, but I only did school terms and we played a lot too. Now he is adult he says it was good to have both the working and the playing mother. Kitty is so right too!
